There is no doubt that everyone wants to make their life better and improve their standard of living, getting a better work/life balance. I partially achieved this when I decided to go my own way and start my marketing consultancy after more than forty years working in retail, sales and marketing for others.
With the consultancy (APS Marketing Consulting Services) I had control over my working hours, vastly reduced my commuting and was doing something I felt was worthwhile and could use my knowledge and experience to help small businesses get on the right marketing track to grow.
Just the beginning
I knew this wasn’t going to be easy or an ‘overnight success’ and would involve a lot of hard work and investment of time to make my mark in the local and regional business marketplace. Now, two- and a-bit years on, and a few tweaks to my business offering I have achieved some success, but this is just the beginning.
My aim was, and still is, to help small businesses realise their dreams and potential … ‘making their marketing pieces fit’ through effective marketing strategies, affordable marketing plans and activities to reach their target audiences and a sound customer contact and relationship strategy … BUT I felt there was something missing?
I knew this wasn’t going to be easy or an ‘overnight success’ and would involve a lot of hard work and investment of time to make my mark in the local and regional business marketplace. Finding the missing jigsaw piece
I was looking for that piece of the jigsaw that would complete the picture for me. Unbeknown to me, that jigsaw piece wasn’t far away, however it would take some months to convince myself this was the right option. I needed something that would comfortably sit alongside my aims … and, more importantly, deliver learning and value to both myself and my clients.
What could help me … and my clients, achieve the success we all want? The answer was found after listening in several networking meetings, researching different options online and finally having a few conversations with the Asentiv UK franchise owner for Northamptonshire and Milton Keynes, Jacky Sherman.
The final jigsaw piece was the core element of the Asentiv UK business … it was referral marketing. Jacky showed me, through 1-2-1 conversations and attending workshops and courses, how a structured approach to referral marketing could work for me … and my clients!
“Referral marketing is a marketing tactic that uses recommendations and word of mouth to grow a business’s customer base through the networks of business connections, suppliers and existing customers.
It can take many forms, but at its heart, it’s one of the most effective ways to spread the word about your brand. In other words, referral marketing can make those business connections, suppliers and customers into brand advocates.“
This was not just something to buy ‘off the shelf’ and include in the marketing mix for clients, but an investment from me to join Asentiv UK as a coach/trainer and enable myself to go out and educate my clients and others of the great benefits and value in developing worthwhile business relationships with like-minded people to help businesses grow faster, stronger and deeper to realise potential and dreams and lead a better life.
